The Sewanee Asian Organization along with the Healthy Hut invite you to a tea party on Wednesday, November 15 from 5:00pm-6:30pm at the Social Lodge. Enjoy tea and snacks while learning about the cultural significance and health benefits of tea.

3rd Annual International Karaoke Night

November 8, 2017
Students, faculty, and community members got together for a fun night of international music, food, and culture. There were over 35 acts singing in 8 languages taught at Sewanee: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish! Judges awarded prizes to the 3 best solo and group acts. Dr. Nuffer Speaks at MGF Conference on Space and Place

Dr. Laura Nuffer delivered the address, "Hell on Earth: How the Realms of Torment Became a Tourist Destination in Early Modern Japan" at the 2nd Annual Interdisciplinary conference, "A Sense of Space and Place: Global and Local Perspectives" organized by the Mellon Globalization Forum, which was held at the University of the South, April 6-8, 2017.

Asian Tea Event

Come to the TEA TIME at the Social Lodge, where different kinds of tea and Asian snacks are provided along with a presentation about tea culture and tradition for those who are interested in Asian culture. This event is sponsored by AASEANS (Asian Association for Students Empowerment Awareness and Networking Services), Healthy Hut, and OCCU (Organization for Cross-Cultural Understanding.)

2nd Annual Karaoke Night a Big Success!

International Karaoke Night featured group and solo acts with songs from 9 different languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian, and Spanish! We would like to thank the foreign language faculty, the Mellon Globalization Forum, the Center for Teaching, the E.L. Kellermann Language Resource Center, the Academic Technology Center, the Tiger Bay Pub, Sewanee Catering, and our judges: Linda Heck, Aaron Welch, and Jennifer Whitehead for making this event a success. Singers were judged based on voice quality, pronunciation, stage presence, and lyrical complexity. Read more to find out who won!

Japanese Table set for the semester

The Japanese Table will be meeting every Thursday at 12:15 in the refectory side of McClurg. You don't have to be fluent in Japanese. You just need to share an interest in Japan and Japanese.
